Clethodim Resistance Map, Germany
Description
This dataset provides a geo-referenced resistance map of three key grass weed species — Alopecurus myosuroides (blackgrass), Lolium multiflorum (Italian ryegrass) and Bromus sterilis (barren brome) — to clethodim (ACCase inhibitor, Group A / legacy 1) across Germany.
Data were collected through Agris42’s national monitoring program (2019–2025) and complemented with farmer-submitted resistance samples (Bezahlproben). Each population was characterized in biotests under controlled greenhouse conditions. Approximate Geographic coordinates are included for each sampling point that carries them.
Field-collected populations were tested in greenhouse biotests under identical, standardised conditions, enabling a direct cross-species comparison of herbicide performance and establishing a sensitivity baseline against which future shifts can be measured. Because both herbicides were applied to all three species under the same protocol, the dataset supports like-for-like benchmarking of the actives across the target weeds.
Data Content
- 10,732 characterized grass weed populations (9,395 with approx. location)
- Resistance classification per population: resistant (≤50% efficacy), partial resistance (51–89%), sensitive (≥90%). Of the 10,636 populations with a 1× reading: for Sensitive, Partial Resistance and Resistant. (A further 96 populations were tested only at a non-1× dose and carry no resistance class.)
- Efficacy values (% control at the 1× recommended field dose)
- Species identification per sample — ALOMY 7,987 · LOLMU 2,389 · BROST 356
- Sampling date per population
- Regional summaries per federal state available on request
Methodology
- Seeds collected from 1,300+ monitored fields and 6,000+ farmer submissions
- Greenhouse biotests under controlled conditions (GEP-certified facility)
- Spray robot application for standardized dose delivery
- Assessment at growth stage BBCH 13–14 (two-leaf stage)
- Control efficacy scored visually and by biomass at 21 DAS
- Reference sensitive population included in each test batch
- Resistance factor (RF) calculated per population
Context & Typical Use Cases
- Resistance strategy development: understand the current spread of clethodim resistance to design effective resistance-management recommendations.
- Market positioning: identify regions where ACCase A/1 products retain efficacy, or where alternatives are urgently needed.
- R&D prioritization: locate populations with specific resistance profiles for targeted experiments or follow-up dose-response studies.
- Regulatory data: use geo-referenced resistance data to support label amendments, efficacy claims, or resistance-monitoring submissions.
Extension Options
- Additional data from other countries
- Custom regional extract (e.g. only NRW or Bavaria)
- Combined with the pinoxaden resistance map (26_A1) for an ACCase (Group A/1) dual-target overview
- Follow-up dose-response experiments on selected populations (full dose-response is withheld from the base product)
- Physical seed samples of characterized populations (on request)
- Annual update subscription (new monitoring-season data)
