ALS Resistance Map, Mesosulfuron, Germany
Description
This dataset provides a geo-referenced resistance map of three key grass weed species: Alopecurus myosuroides, Bromus sterilis, and Lolium multiflorum, to mesosulfuron-methyl (ALS inhibitor, Group B/2) across Germany.
ALS inhibitor resistance is widespread in German grass weed populations. This dataset characterizes the current resistance situation at population level, providing regional breakdowns for each federal state. Data were collected through Agris42’s national monitoring program (2019–2025) and complemented with farmer-submitted resistance samples. Each population was tested under standardized greenhouse conditions with approx. location coordinates recorded.
Data Content
- 9,295 characterized grass weed populations (8,290 with approx. location coordinates)
- Resistance classification per population: resistant (≤50% efficacy), partially resistant (51–89%), sensitive (≥90%)
- Efficacy values (% control at the 1× recommended field dose)
- Species identification per sample — ALOMY 7,654 · LOLMU 1,607 · BROSS 34
- Sampling date and growth stage at test
- Regional summaries per federal state available on request
Methodology
- Seeds collected from 1,300+ monitored fields and 6,000+ farmer submissions
- Greenhouse biotests under controlled conditions (GEP-certified facility)
- Spray robot application for standardized dose delivery
- Assessment at growth stage BBCH 13–14 (two-leaf stage)
- Control efficacy scored visually and by biomass at 21 DAS
- Reference sensitive population (RF = 1.0) included in every test batch
- Resistance factor (RF) calculated per population
Context & Typical Use Cases
- Resistance strategy development: understand regional ALS resistance levels to guide product positioning and resistance-management recommendations.
- Market analysis: identify German regions where mesosulfuron-methyl products retain efficacy and where alternatives are urgently required.
- Regulatory support: use geo-referenced resistance data to support label claims, registration submissions, or resistance-stewardship programs.
- R&D targeting: locate specific resistant populations for follow-up mechanistic studies (target-site vs. metabolic resistance).
Extension Options
- Custom regional extract (e.g. Bavaria or Lower Saxony only)
- Combined with the pinoxaden resistance map (26_A1) for a dual-target overview
- Resistance-mechanism analysis (TSR vs. NTSR classification) on request
- Physical seed samples of characterized populations available
- Annual update subscription (new monitoring-season data added each year)
