Aclonifen Resistance Map, Germany

Description

This dataset provides a geo-referenced sensitivity and resistance map of three key grass weed species: Alopecurus myosuroides (blackgrass), Lolium multiflorum (Italian ryegrass) and Bromus sterilis (barren brome), to aclonifen, a soil-applied pre-emergence herbicide (HRAC Group 32, legacy F3) across Germany.

Aclonifen is screened as part of Agris42’s standard pre-emergence biotest panel, which means the populations here are characterized against the same product year after year on a consistent protocol, making the year-on-year trend directly comparable. Data were collected through the national monitoring program (2019–2025) and complemented with farmer-submitted resistance samples. Aproximate loctions are included for each sampling point that carries them.

Data Content

  • 1,802 characterized grass weed populations (1,390 with GPS coordinates), every one with a measured result at the 1× field dose
  • Resistance classification per population: resistant (≤50% efficacy), partial effect (51–89%), sensitive (≥90%).
  • Efficacy values (% control at the 1× recommended field dose)
  • Species identification per sample: ALOMY 1,280 · LOLMU 498 · BROST 24
  • Per-species resistance profile
  • Sampling date, crop and infestation score per population
  • Landkreis and federal state per geo-referenced population
  • Regional summaries per federal state available on request

Methodology

    • Seeds collected from monitored fields and farmer submissions across Germany
    • Greenhouse biotests under controlled conditions (GEP-certified facility)
    • Spray robot application for standardized dose delivery
    • Soil-applied (pre-emergence) treatment at the registered 1× field rate, with a 0.5× rate alongside
    • Control efficacy scored visually against an untreated control of the same population
    • Reference sensitive population included in each test batch
    • Replicate efficacy reads averaged per population and dose

Context & Typical Use Cases

  • Resistance strategy development: aclonifen is a key pre-emergence partner for resistance management; this map shows where it still carries a programme and where it is already slipping.
  • Market positioning: identify regions where Group 32 pre-emergence chemistry retains efficacy, or where alternatives are urgently needed.
  • R&D prioritization: locate populations with specific resistance profiles for targeted experiments or follow-up dose-response studies.
  • Regulatory data: use geo-referenced resistance data to support label amendments, efficacy claims, or resistance-monitoring submissions.

Extension Options

  • Additional data from other countries (aclonifen is also screened outside Germany)
  • Custom regional extract (e.g. only Hessen or Sachsen, the two best-covered states)
  • Combined with the other pre-emergence actives of the same screening panel for a full soil-herbicide overview
  • Combined with the prosulfocarb map (26_A8) for a two-target pre-emergence picture on the same populations
  • Follow-up dose-response experiments on selected populations (full dose-response is withheld from the base product)
  • Physical seed samples of characterized populations (on request)
  • Annual update subscription (new monitoring-season data)
